NPP primaries: Yankah, Amin, Adorye victorious

Some notable stalwarts of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have secured the mandate of delegates to contest seats in constituencies held by the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah; Deputy Energy Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam and Deputy National Security Coordinator in charge of Airports, Hopeson Adorye are three of the NPP loyalists who won in their various constituencies in the NPP primaries held on Saturday, 28 September 2019.

Professor Yankah won in the Agona East Constituency in the Central Region with 267 votes. His competitors Prince Yaw Essah, a Chartered Accountant, and Dr Kennedy Abrokwa, an Economics Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) managed 127 and 175 votes respectively.

Professor Yankah has high hopes of defeating the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, in the 2020 polls.

Meanwhile, Dr Adam also garnered 385 votes to snatch the Karaga Constituency candidature from Baba Sayuti, who managed 78 votes. The other contestants from the Karaga constituency were Alhassan Abdulai, who had four votes and Sulemana Ibn Saeed, who managed a paltry two votes.

The Energy Analyst will be contesting NDC MP for Karaga, Mr Alhassan Sualihu Dandaawa, in the 2020 polls.

For Mr Adorye, he won to be the Kpone Katamanso NPP Parliamentary Candidate with 321 votes. The others in the race for Kpone Katamanso and their results are William Asante - 203 votes and Prince Dadzie – 56 and David Annang - 46.

The current MP for Kpone Katamanso is the NDC’s Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo.
