A political analyst and former lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University Thomas Kusi Boafo has described the communication department of the ruling New Patriotic Party as too weak hence its inability to come up with strategic plans to set the agenda of government for media discussions.
He said although Akufo-Addo’s administration has rolled out major campaign policies barely ten months in office, the communication department is not doing well to communicate these policies to whip up the enthusiasm of many Ghanaians who voted for the NPP.
Thomas Kusi Boafo who is also an economist and currently the CEO of Public Sector Reform noted what NPP should have done was to build a strong and vibrant communication team after it won power.
Speaking on Oman FM’s political analysis programme “Boiling Point”, Mr Kusi Boafo urged the party to quickly recruit communication strategists to spearhead the propagation of the policies of the government in the media.
“So NPP must quickly assemble communication strategists to counter the opposition National Democratic Congress and leverage information,” he suggested.
Comparing the ruling New Patriotic Party to the opposition NDC, he said as far as he is concerned the NDC has robust communication machinery than the NPP, saying this is why the NDC is still spewing lies into the public despite the many achievements of the NPP.
“The NDC has the machinery ..it has the media. They took their time to set up FM stations and every single press conference they call there will be several media houses and they will churn out their information to the public,” he said.
“Before the NDC left the office they created wealth to compete with the NPP for the years,” he added.
He warned that the ruling NPP will not have it easy going forward if it fails to resource its communication department to march NDC boot for boot.
“The NPP must prepare for a real battle because all the contracts that were signed after the NDC lost the elections were to resource some people for future elections,” he stated.
