NPP’s hairdresser not needed in parliament - Baba Jamal

Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Alhaji Baba Jamal, has advised electorate in his constituency not to vote for a hairdresser to represent them in Parliament as the House requires learned people.

Baba Jamal, therefore, urged voter in the area to give him another term in the August house in the November polls.

He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Madam Mercy Ama Sey, is not good enough to be an MP since her background as hairdresser will make her worthless when she is voted as MP. He maintained that unlike him who is a professional politician and a lawyer, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) aspirant would not able to catch up with the proceedings of the House and lobby for development for the area.

Speaking on Accra-based Adom FM Saturday, the Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations noted that if going to parliament was all about fashion and hairdressing, he would step aside for the NPP's Mercy Ama Sey.

The legislator said Mr. Steven Ofori, the Progressive People's Party (PPP) is a professional teacher at Wenchi Senior High School and therefore more qualified than the NPP's hairdresser aspirant.

Reacting to the incumbent MP's comments, Mercy Ama Sey said Baba Jamal’s comment is an indictment on all Ghanaians who have vocational works. She adds that leadership is an art that requires more wisdom than knowledge and that even as a hairdresser, she has the wisdom to lead the people of Akwatia and that she has helped more people in the area than any other politician.

Madam Ama Sey disclosed that Baba Jamal entered parliament before becoming a lawyer and that instead of four years , Mr. Jamal used nine years to complete law school -a record time in the history of the Ghana Law School.

Speaking in a telephone interview, PPP's Mr. Steven Offori said it was not right for the incumbent MP to belittle the profession of his contenders since every profession is equally important adding that a lawyer was first taught by a teacher. He maintained that electorates are sick and tired of Baba Jamal since he has done nothing for the area as an MP.

In furtherance, Mr. Steven said, Baba Jamal’s quest for a second term is a wild goose chase since the people of Akwatia will not even give him two weeks in office let alone four more years.
