NPP’s performance in 2017 was abysmal - NDC Communications Director

The Communications Director for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Agotime-Ziope Constituency of the Volta Region, Mr. Sylvester Amada has indicated the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has performed abysmally in the district for the past one year.

According to him, the governing NPP promised the constituents a lot during the 2016 general election campaign but yet to achieve one.

Prominent among them he said are ‘one district one factory’ and free SHS. Though the free SHS has been implemented, he indicated that the beneficiary students have no place to lay their heads.

“They have failed in a lot of promises they made to Ghanaians…in my area, they said, they will establish one district one factory, there is nothing going on. Free SHS has taken place in my area but we are facing a lot of challenges, students have no place to sleep and no classrooms to learn”, Mr Amada lamented.

He observed, the government also performed poorly during their one year in office at the health sector and sanitation in the district. He thereby rated its performance in office so far with no percentage scored.

Meanwhile, the constituency secretary for the ruling New Patriotic Party, Mr. Abraham Kwabla Anigbi said the government had done well in 2017 and needs to be applauded.

Mr Anigbi reacting to Mr. Amada’s explained, his government put proactive measures in place and curbed the accommodation problem that confronted the schools when free SHS policy was implemented.

“The district has two Senior High Schools and one is a boarding while other is a day school. Some boarding students were sent to the day school but they all have places to sleep as a result of the proactive nature of the DCE, the presiding member, and myself. So if somebody is saying we don’t perform is not true” he refuted.

The secretary revealed there are plans in place to construct a tomato factory in the district after consultation with the constituents.

Abraham Kwabla added his government did well by undertaking other activities and constructing some minor roads in the area during last year, thereby rating its performance not less than 80 percent.

These comments came after the Industrial and Commercial workers Union (ICU) granted the administration a favorable 80 percent rating in its one year assessment.

The Union however wants the president Nana Addo to fast track the process of getting the special prosecutor’s office running to clamp down on corruption in the country.
