NPP set-out rules for Special Electoral College

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday spell-out rules for the party’s Special Electoral College slated for Sunday, August 31.

In a statement to Ghana News Agency in Accra, by the General Secretary Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong said voting would start at 0800 hour and ends at 1500 hours.

According to the statement counting of ballots would continue immediately after voting and results declared.

The statement said the Electoral Commission would conduct the election at 11designated voting centres across the country.

The statement said Presiding officers would be in total control of the polling station and would be assisted by a National Executive to identify voters.

It explained that all eligible voters would be identified by the NPP Delegates card and must have their names in the Voters Album.

“All proxies voters should be eligible voters with their name on the proxy list and should also produce a copy of the proxy form. No polling official should take instructions from any party member or executive,” the statement said.

The statement said each aspirant is entitled to nominate two agents for each of the designated voting centres, but only one would be engaged at a given time.

“Aspirants are further entitled to nominate one additional agent to represent them at the results collation centre at the Electoral Commission’s Headquarters.

“Results declaration forms should be endorsed by candidates’ agents present and faxed to EC Head Office (OPS Room) by Regional Directors,” the statement said.

The statement said no delegate/aspirant or their supporters would be allowed to campaign within the voting centre.

The statement said each Region’s election shall be supervised by a National Representative.

The statement said there shall be no use of cameras at the polling booths.

Delegates shall proceed to the Electoral Officers, go through the process of identification and issued with Ballot Papers to cast their Votes.

The designated voting Centres are: Ashanti Region – Community Centre KNUST; Greater Accra – Osu Salem Park, Accra; Central Region – Pampanasie Hotel Cape Coast; and Volta Region – Skyplus Hotel Ho.

The rest are: Western Region – GNAT Hall, Takoradi; Brong Ahafo – Pastoral Centre, Sunyani; Northern Region – Sports Stadium inner Car Park; Eastern Region- Oyinka Hotel Koforidua; Upper West Region – GNAT Hall, Wa; Upper East Region – VAG Hall Bolga; and National Headquarters, Asylum Down.

On Security issues, the statement said the party has concluded discussions with the Ghana Police Service on providing security assistance for the election at all voting centres on Election Day.

The statement urged party members to ensure full cooperation with the security service in the discharge of their duties.
