Kwabeng Aug. 31, GNA-Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have began merry making in anticipation of victory in the by-election at the Atiwa constituency as results trickle in.
From Abomosu to Kwabeng and also from Anyinam down to Kwabeng, supporters of the NPP could be found everywhere celebrating along streets and public places, though final results are yet to be declared.
Over half of the ballot boxes from the 103 polling stations in the constituency had been brought to the collation centre at the Kwabeng Presbyterian Church.
The returning officer, Mr. Boateng Nkrumah, at 1930 hours started announcing the results from the various polling stations to media personnel and representatives of political parties at the collation centre.
So far the results from 20 polling stations declared showed a commanding lead for Mr. Kwesi Amoako Attah, the Parliamentary candidate of the NPP, with Mr. Emmanuel Atta Twum, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Mr George Padmore Apreku, candidate of the New Vision Party and Kasum Abdul Karim, of the People's National Convention (PNC) all trailing in that order.
At the moment, anxious journalists and political party representatives are collating the figures from the polling stations as been announced by Mr. Nkrumah.
The final results of the election were expected to be declared later today.
