Assin Nsuta (C/R), Nov 26, GNA - Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, a Presidential Aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, has stated that the NPP would have landslide victory in the 2008 elections if it worked hard to justify the good policies and programmes it had pursued since assuming office.
He called on the delegates to the Dec 22 national congress of the Party to elect a Presidential candidate who was marketable and economic oriented to lead the NPP bid to retain power.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Assin Nsuta as part of his visit to the Central Region, Dr Apraku stated that his tour nation wide had proved that all had not been well with the foot soldiers after the party won the 2000 and 2004 elections.
He urged the delegates to ensure that the Presidential primaries produced a credible, capable and strong visionary leader to provide stronger economic, political and social direction to ease the hardship facing the people.
Dr Apraku advised the national leaders to endeavour to provide a level playing field and not to attempt to manipulate following the correct procedure to elect the candidate that would be able to win. He noted that no attempt should be made to undermine any aspirant, so that the person selected would reflect the true choice of the people in the country.
Dr Apraku stated that the delegates should choose a candidate capable to march Professor Atta Mills, the NDC Flag bearer at all levels and to be able to engage him in national televised debates. He said the NPP must elect a leader who had the capacity, experience, God fearing, matriculate and service oriented to provide strong leadership in fighting corruption and moral decadence that had engulfed the nation.
The MP for Offinso North said the flag bearer should be a person, who would be bold to embark on the new economic programmes that would be aggressively pursued.
He emphasised that the leader must endeavour to change primitive agriculture policies of the state and solve the huge unemployment problem facing the youth to solve the numerous problems confronting the nation. Dr Apraku said the next leader of Ghana must understand the impact of forces of globalisation, economic liberalization and information technology to improve efficiency of public sector. The NPP Aspirant said the delegates must choose a leader who would be able to create jobs, increase transparency and reduce mismanagement of public resources in the award of contracts. He stressed that the leader of the party who would be chosen must understand the party, its tradition and challenges, saying such a leader must understand and appreciate contributions of the foot soldiers. 26 Nov 07
