Somanya (ER), Oct. 26, GNA - The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party [NPP], Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Saturday promised the people of Krobo area in the Eastern Region, that the NPP would establish an industrial plant for mango processing, if elected as President of Ghana. He asked the electorate to compare the achievements of the 19 years of PNDC and National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the barely eight years of the NPP and decided, which party to support. Nana Akufo-Addo, who was addressing separate rallies at Somanya, Asesewa and Nkurakan, said if voted into power, his administration would continue with the prudent management of the economy, started by President Kufour, to expand the economy and create opportunities for people to realize their God-given talents. The NPP presidential candidate said unlike others, he was not into politics to make money but to offer exemplary leadership that might propel Ghana into the status of an advanced country. A former NPP Finance Minister, Mr. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, said the NDC did not deserve to be given another chance to rule the country because of its bad management of the economy during its reign and urged the electorate to vote for NPP to retain it in power. He asked the electorate to vote for people who would place their welfare above any other interest. Nana Akuffo Addo promised to help open up the poor road network in the Upper Manya area to enable farmers get access market centres in Koforidua and Asesewa. A leading Member of the NPP, Mr Boakye Agyarko, regretted the look-warm attitude of the people in the area in voting for the NPP despite the fact that it has a vision in hastening Ghana's socio-economic development compared to the other political parties. Miss Gloria Akufo, a former Minister of State and Ambassador designate, asked the people to reject politicians who might influence them with gifts to vote for them. Earlier, Nana Addo, accompanied by other leading functionaries of the party attended a burial service of victims of the recent land slither that occurred at Nyesin, at Adukrom-Akuapem and donated 2,500 Ghana cedis to the bereaved families. 26 Oct. 08
