The New Patriotic Party (NPP) would hold a Regional Annual Delegates Conference on Saturday, May 4, to elect officers to occupy vacant regional executive positions, occasioned by the recent regional reorganisation, in pursuant of Article 18 of its Constitution.

A statement signed by Mr John Boadu, the General Secretary of the Party, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, explained that decision was made by the Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) at its meeting held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at the Party headquarters.

This was, subsequently, ratified by the National Council, on the same day.

According to the statement, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the Chief of Staff, National Chairman Freddie Blay and other NEC members were at the meeting.

The NEC has, as part of the Regulations governing the impending conference, directed that all persons serving as regional executives (appointed/elected) in the regions that had been split had an option of choosing where they wanted to be, and should maintain their current positions.

“If on the other hand, any regional officer is desirous of contesting for a different position, then he/she shall vacate his/her current position, in order to be eligible to contest for the new position.

“Consequently, the position he/she was occupying shall be declared vacant for fresh nominations to be filed”.

The National Council approved the composition of its Standing and Ad hoc Committees comprising Finance, Constitutional and Legal, Vetting, Organisational, Research, National Disciplinary, Dispute Resolution, ICT, Welfare, Elections, Events, and Communications Committees.

It also approved additional names to the Party’s National Council of Elders, the statement said, adding these committees would soon be inaugurated.

The Party shall soon come out with guidelines and modalities for the conduct of the extraordinary Regional Delegates’ Conference in all the affected areas.

“It is the expectation of the Party that all stakeholders shall be guided by these directives,” it added.
