Mr. Helman Seshie, Patron of the Ketu South Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said at the weekend that the government will go ahead with development projects in the Volta Region despite the NPP's poor showing there during the recent general election.

" The sceptics will be proved wrong of their notion that an NPP government will neglect the region", he said at a rally at Aflao to celebrate the party's victory in the last December general election.

He asked the people to rally behind the government to facilitate the implementation of its development programme aimed at clearing the mess created by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

Mr Seshie said many NDC supporters continue to desert the party on the quiet following the worrying and shameful revelations about its government's performance.

He condemned the divestiture of public companies such as the Ghana Telecom, noting that even in advanced European countries such companies still exist under the state providing essential services in the national interest.

Mr Seshie said the NPP government would give special attention to job creation, improvement in education standard and increase in agricultural production under its programme to alleviate poverty and raise the socio-economic status of the people.

Mrs Benedicta Dzakpasu, Regional Women's Co-ordinator of the party asked women to see the party's victory as a victory for Ghanaian women because of the prudent efforts being made to enhance gender equity through the establishment of the Ministry of Women's Affairs.

She said the government is taking steps to address all issues of national concern such as transparency in governance, national reconciliation, armed robberies and the serial killing of women.

Mrs. Dzakpasu asked Ghanaians to brace themselves for difficult times ahead through sacrifice and hard work to support the government to "breathe life into the economy".
