New Edubiase (Ash), April 4, GNA - The New Edubiase Constituency Parliamentary Election Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had disqualified one of two candidates who filed their nomination to contest th= e party's parliamentary primaries.

Mr De-Graft Kyei, the NPP's 2008 parliamentary candidate, was declar= ed ineligible following his failure to pay the GH¢6,000.00 filing fee. This leaves Mr Charles Cann, a businessman, as sole candidate for the poll fixed for Saturday, April 30.

Mr Prince Anfo Boahen, Constituency Chairman, told the Ghana News Agency that the delegates would have to confirm his candidacy. He called for hard work, sacrifice and unity of purpose to enable the party to wrest the parliamentary seat that had since 1992 been held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in next year's general elections. He said this was not beyond their reach given the poor performance of the Mills Administration that had worsened the economic situation of Ghanaians and was fuelling cynicism among the people.

Mr Boahen said all that they needed to do was to maintain a solid front, sing from the same hymn sheet and work like a team to bring the NPP back to power.
