NPP will develop nation - Effah-Dartey

DEPUTY Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Captain (retd) Nkrabea Effah-Dartey, has said the Kufuor administration will strive to ensure an even development of the country.

He said the government will make available resources to districts throughout the country for the development of the various communities and the improvement in the material conditions of the people.

Capt. Effah-Dartey was speaking at a durbar of the chiefs and people of Kete-Krachi to mark the first anniversary celebration of the enstoolment of the Krachiwura, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, and the installation of the new queenmother, Nana Ama Mprah Denkyira I, at Kete-Krachi.

He said in spite of the serious financial constraints , the government will use funds at its disposal judiciously to develop the nation.

Capt. Effah-Dartey gave the assurance that the government will undertake projects that would improve education and lake transportation in the area as well as transform the airstrip at Kete-Krachi into an airport to speed up the social and economic development of the area.

The deputy minister stressed the importance of unity and accommodation and urged the people to co-exist to move the area forward.

He expressed the hope that the Krachiwura, a Commissioner of Police, will use his vast experience in the Police Service to sustain the peace prevailing in the area.

In an address, Nana Besemuna appealed to the government to take urgent steps to establish irrigation projects in the Krachi District to boost food production and encourage the youth to embrace farming as a vocation.

He also appealed to non-governmental organisations (NGO) engaged in the agriculture industry to extend their operations to the area in order to generate employment for the youth who have been drifting to the urban centres in search for non-existent jobs.

Nana Besemuna expressed grave concern over child labour and lack of parental control in the area and hinted that a forum would be held to solicit the views of stakeholders on ways to address the menace.

A member of the Council of State, Nana Ogyeabour Akompi Finam, who is also the Kadjebihene, called on parents to send their children to school to enable them to become responsible and productive citizens in the future.

Present at the function were the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Peter Nanfuri and chiefs from various parts of the country.
