NPP would cooperate with the police- Sir John

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) pledged its co-operation with the Police on matters involving Mr Osei Bonsu Amoah, a former Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, arrested for alleged involvement in the Woyome judgement pay out scandal.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr John Owusu-Afriye, the General Secretary of the party said, ‘I am sure that the rule of law would work in this matter, so we are all waiting patiently for the outcome.

“As I speak, the Police are interrogating Mr Amoah and after that a bail would be considered because the charges that would against him would allow that - corruption and causing financing loss to the state he said, adding that, "I have a feeling that after the interrogation, bail would be granted”.

Mrs Frema Opare, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East Wagon, said the arrest took place just after Alhaji Batuare, a social commentator, had called for the arrest of Mr. Amoah, also Member of Parliament of Aburi Nsawam, while people at the centre of the scandal such as Mrs Betty Mould Iddrissu, Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, was only invited to testify.

The Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service was holding a meeting at the time of GNA's visit.

Meanwhile, a large crowd of NPP supporters clad in party colours thronged the Police headquarters where Mr Amoah is kept, wailing, shouting and crying
