NPP youth says Rawlings utterances amount to incitement

Kumasi, July 18, GNA - The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described recent public utterances of Ex-President Rawlings as amounting to "inciting the good people of Ghana to revolt against the democratically elected government of Ghana". The branch, therefore, appealed to the Ex-President to put a halt to such utterances and conduct himself in a manner as to earn the respect accorded Ex-Heads of State.

Mr Kofi Asante, Chairman of the branch, said this at a press conference on Thursday. He said the use of political platforms by Ex-President Rawlings, as a platform for expressing his dissatisfaction on certain national issues and to launch attacks on some government functionaries was not the best since it had the tendency of destabilising the nation. Mr Asante said the KNUST branch of the NPP was fed-up with the outbursts of the Ex-President on trivial matters. Mr Asante appealed to former President Rawlings to take a cue from what happened to the Ex-Head of Sate of Cote d'Ivoire, General Robert Guei, when he attempted to stage a come back.

Mr Andrews Frimpong, Asokwa East Constituency Secretary of the Party, disputed the claim of Ex-President Rawlings that some top government officials were behind the serial killing of women prior to the 2000 General Election. He said: "If his claim was true Ex-President Rawlings would not have hesitated coming out promptly with the names and identities of those who master-minded the killings."
