The National Reconciliation Commission (NRC) has denied allegations by Mr Riad Hozaifeh that there is a plot to assassinate ex-President Rawlings, himself and other persons associated with the ex-president, should he appear before the commission.
The denial, made by the executive secretary of the commission Dr Kenneth Attafuah was in reaction to a letter from Riad to them.
Mr Hoziafeh, a Ghanaian of Lebanese origin often described as a close aide of ex-president Rawlings who has been accused of several human rights anuses has complained to the commission in writing that he feels it is becoming "a tool for NPP propaganda to create public hatred for people like himself."
Riad said whiles accusations against him had been made broadcast on national television, his responses had often been ignored by GTV.
But in response, the NRC told Riad that the commission has no control over which of its proceedings are covered or televised by GTV.
The commission also assured Riad that they are "committed to ensuring the safety, security and integrity of all persons who appear before it, or who are involved in its proceedings, and will not allow its work to be used as a pretext for any unlawful activity."
It also said: You (Riad) state further that the commission is being used for the implementation of a more sinister agenda by unofficial security operatives of the government. It is not clear to the commission what statement means. However, the commission has referred to the Inspector general of police and the relevant security agencies for the necessary action on your claim that "there is a plot to assassinate the ex-president should he appear before the commission."
The NRC, whose mandate to investigate human rights violations has been extended by six months would resume after the New Year with an invitation to ex-president Jerry Rawlings to answer charges of human rights abuses top on the agenda.
