NRSC supports Effia-Nkwanta hospital

The Western Regional Office of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) on Sunday presented assorted items such as toiletries, detergents, disinfectants and fruits to the Emergency Ward of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

The donation formed part of the Commission’s week-long activities to create awareness on road safety issues and the need for passengers to speak against reckless driving on the road to ensure an accident-free Christmas.

The Western Regional Manager of the Commission, Mr. Samuel Obeng Asiamah, entreated passengers to speak up whenever a driver was driving carelessly and report those recalcitrant drivers to the nearest police barrier.

He indicated that the NRSC was collaborating with the Ghana Red Cross Society to establish two Emergency First Aid posts along Takoradi/Cape Coast highway and Agona-Nkwanta/Tarkwa routes, to offer immediate first aid services to accident victims.

In this way, he said, it would reduce the number of casualties who died through accidents because of poor handling and, therefore, urged corporate institutions to support a worthy cause.

He disclosed that first aid training had been infused onto the curricular of the National Drivers Academy to improve prospective drivers’ knowledge in handling accident victims.

The Officer in charge of the Ward, Madam Mabel Assarko, on behalf of the Hospital, expressed her profound gratitude to the Commission and entreated them to intensify its road safety awareness campaigns in view of the increasing number of persons perishing through road crashes.

Meanwhile, the NRSC last Saturday organized a health walk through the principal streets of Takoradi to promote healthy lifestyle and increase public awareness of road safety issues.
