The Coalition of Ghana National Service Personnel is requesting the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to extend the service period which ends on March 31, 2017 to August 31, 2017.

According to the group, most of the personnel are unemployed and that this will allow them search for jobs.

The group further pleaded with the government not to terminate their appointment in March to prevent them from joining the teeming unemployed youth in the country.

‘First and foremost, the additional six (6) months extension that was given to the extension service personnel was to allow us search for jobs but as it stands now most of us have still not gotten the jobs. And considering the economic hardship and high unemployment rate, we know the current administration is still putting things in place to create more job opportunities which we can get later on,’ the Group Organiser, Prince Agyemang Boateng said in a statement.

COALITION OF NSS EXTENSION PERSONNEL

PETITION TO THE PRESIDENT TO EXTEND OUR SERVICE PERIOD

The entire membership of the above named group wishes to bring to your notice the group’s intention for our extension period which ends on 31st March, 2017 to be extended to 31st August, 2017.

This has been necessitated due to the following reasons:

First and foremost, the additional six (6) months extension that was given to the extension service personnel was to allow us search for jobs but as it stands now most of us have still not gotten the jobs. And considering the economic hardship and high unemployment rate, we know the current administration is still putting things in place to create more job opportunities which we can get later on.

Secondly, most extension personnel at various posts especially at the education sector are playing vital roles in their institutions that their termination in March will create gaps since those vacuums will not be filled until September when the next batch of service personnel are deployed. These gaps will be really manifested especially in the rural areas and at the basic level and we believe since education is one of the main priorities of the country, we should not allow such vacuums in these schools.

Moreover, aside the gaps to be created if the appointment is terminated in March; the efforts of the extension personnel add up to the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) of the country especially in the area of services. Since the GDP is the addition of the total output of the labour force; taking away the extension personnel services we are rendering to the nation will unfavourably affect the National GDP which needs to be critically taken a look at.

Finally, with regards to the quest of the current administration in its promises to create employment, we are pleading and urging the government not to terminate our appointment by March for the numerous extension personnel to also join the already mass unemployment rate in the country.
