Accra, Aug. 16, GNA - The National Tripartite Committee (NTC) on Tuesday asked the Tema District Council of Labour to call off their intended demonstration scheduled for Wednesday, August 17 since most of the issues raised had been resolved by recent developments.

A statement Mr Joseph Adda, Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment; Mrs Rose Anang, Executive Director Ghana Employers Association, and Mr Kofi Asamoah, Deputy Secretary-General Operation of Ghana Trades Union Congress; signed on Tuesday said at a meeting of the Committee it came out that the Government had met the demand to reconsider the prices of kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by the recent downward review of their prices by the National Petroleum Authority.

The statement said on the issue of taxation on overtime and bonus it was realised that since 1999 two legislations had been passed and that there had been misunderstanding in the application of the law pertaining to the payment of overtime and bonus.

The statement said Legislative Instrument 1675 (2001) was wrongly being applied instead of Legislative Instrument 1803 (2004) and drew attention of employers, organised labour and all stakeholders that they should apply LI 1803 when computing taxation on overtime. The statement asked all stakeholders to contact the nearest Internal Revenue Offices for any enquiries.

On the textile and garments sector the NTC said they were exploring avenues to revamp the sector based on recommendation made by its Sub-Committee.
