NUGS president speaks against indiscriminate postings across tertiary institutions

President of the National Union of Ghana Students, Isaac Jay Hyde, has spoken against the spate at which some groups and individuals indiscriminately post at unapproved places on the campus of various tertiary institutions in the country.

Speaking to UniversNews whilst at the University of Education, Kumasi, Isaac Jay Hyde admitted that such actions were defacing the beauty of campuses.

“I think that generally it’s a problem to have students spend so much on campus elections and a lot of it goes into posters and banners being indiscriminately posted across the campuses. I think it’s a bad thing and defaces our campuses, he said.

Isaac Hyde says that the behaviour of culprits, of which students are inclusive, is not a reflection of the level of intellectualism that is expected to exist and exhibited in institutions of higher learning.

The NUGS President described such actions as condemnable and urged perpetrators to desist from it.

It doesn’t show a true reflection of intellectualism and student activism. I believe that all of us as citizens and students when we walk in town and we see how the church and other groups have posted indiscriminately on our walls, we share a certain concern that it’s a bad thing to do and I don’t see why in another reflection we should do same on our campuses. It’s condemnable” he stated.

Isaac Jay Hyde’s comment on indiscriminate postings across tertiary institutions comes on the back a campaign launched by Ghana’s leading campus radio station, Radio Univers 105.7FM.

The campaign, #StopIndiscriminatePostingsNow, is targetted at persons posting posters at prohibited places on the campus of the University of Ghana.

#StopIndiscriminatePostingsNow is achieving results as University management has taken action to peel posters off lamp posts especially.

Isaac Jay Hyde has endorsed the campaign and is hopeful the efforts will be made to fight against indiscriminate postings on other campuses.
