National Union of Ghanaian Students (NUGS) has reassured students that it is exploring numerous avenues to ensure that issues that have characterised the Student Loans Trust Fund are resolved, ABC News Ghana can report.
This they believe will come as a relief to students across the country who have been affected adversely in one way or the other including those prevented from writing examination which forms part of mandatory assessment for their time in school.
In a press release signed by the Press Secretary, Kobby Otchere and President, Tinkaro Asare Osei, the Union asserted that it has met with several stakeholders including the Finance Minister to propose some reforms that will make the Fund better.
“The Union having had several meetings with the Students Loan Trust Fund and student leaders across Ghana, is determined to use all available opportunities to plan on a more reformed loan scheme to ensure that students do not go through the challenges of accessing their loan funds again” a statement submitted to ABC News Ghana contained.
The statement added, “NUGS is pleased to also inform all beneficiaries that the funds have been released and that disbursements will continue to speedily curb all inconveniences they have had to endure these past weeks”

NUGS MEETS MINISTER OF FINANCE ON ISSUES OF STUDENT LOAN TRUST FUND
The National Union of Ghana Students has paid a working visit to the Ministry of Finance to discuss comprehensively, the financial condition of students in the country especially in accessing the Students’ Loan and how best the Union together with all stakeholders of the Loan Trust Fund can better resolve the current situation.
The meeting was necessitated due to a number of challenges beneficiaries of the Students’ Loan have been through for some time now and to discuss the progress of the Loan Trust Fund in the country.
Some beneficiaries have been denied access to examination rooms because they have arrears with their respective institutions. Others have outstanding accommodation arrears and other personal expenses to settle.
The Union having had several meetings with the Students Loan Trust Fund and student leaders across Ghana, is determined to use all available opportunities to plan on a more reformed loan scheme to ensure that students do not go through the challenges of accessing their loan funds again.
NUGS is pleased to also inform all beneficiaries that the funds have been released and that disbursements will continue to speedily curb all inconveniences they have had to endure these past weeks.
