The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has congratulated Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, on his nomination as the Minister of Education by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mr Prempeh was on Tuesday, 10 January named with 12 others to occupy various ministerial portfolios pending approval by parliament.
“We at NUGS have waited with bated breath to know who the new Minister responsible for steering the affairs of education will be. Indeed, we are gratified to know that such a hardworking legislator has been nominated for this portfolio,” the student body said in a statement.
“As an alumnus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where he took an interest in student leadership, we are certain that the honourable nominee is fully abreast of issues confronting our educational sector and is well positioned to help make the sector more productive and beneficial to national development.”
NUGS expressed confidence in Mr Prempeh and added that it was ready to partner him to help actualise the vision of the Akufo-Addo-led government as far as education was concerned.
NUGS further wished the Minister-designate luck in his vetting process and expressed confidence parliament’s Appointments Committee would approve him to become the sector minister.
