The National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) has opened 10 new vocational training centres to train about 2,000 young people in various trades.

Manpower Development and Employment Minister, Mrs. Cecilia Bannerman, disclosed this at the 25th anniversary of the Japan Overseas Co-operation Volunteers (JOCV) in Ghana.

According to her, the centres will start operations next year.

She said, to further address the drifting of rural youth to the urban areas, the government intends to establish community-based apprenticeship schemes which will target young people who are barely literate due to their inability to continue schooling.
