Just when it seemed the Ghanaian community in New York is settling down after the February loss of one of its iconic leaders, it gets hit again with another monumental death. And again, it is of a man of GaDangme origins. Mr. Emmanuel Anoe-Lamptey, 74, former chairman and elder of the GaDangme Kpee of New York passed away in Brooklyn on October 14 after having been taken ill for some time.

Onukpa Anoe as he was popularly called was a founding member of GaDangme and for many years served as central spoke around which the association revolved. When times were rough and the association tethered on disintegration, it was the late leader and ironically the late Dr Ben Dodoo and a few others who found a way to resurrect and keep it alive and well. Dr. Dodoo it will be recalled, tragically passed away on February 19 earlier this year. How are we to deal with the loss, months apart, of these two truly proud and strong leaders of the Ga community. We have gotten used to their presence at each and every GaDangme event, particularly at our Homowo festivals ever since we started celebrating it in these United States? We will forever bow in grateful appreciation for his role in the global GaDangme International organization.

As we pray Providence to abide with his soul, we also ask that we are given the will to commit to the GaDangme and Ghanaian causes that he courageously and fearlessly committed himself to. Onukpa Anoe will be sorely missed. Funeral arrangements are as follows:
