NYC and AYA organize youth mock assembly at Winneba

Winneba (C/R), Dec 1, GNA- The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Secretariat of the National Youth Council (NYC) in-collaboration with the Africa Youth Alliance (AYA) on Tuesday organized a District Youth Mock Assembly at Winneba to focus on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive health issues.

Participants were drawn from youth organisations and some first and second cycle institutions in the district.

The Mock Assembly, which was attended by over 120 observers including parents, heads of institutions, the clergy and chiefs, was to create a platform for them to take part in decision-making process especially on adolescent sexual and reproductive health issues.

The assembly urged "policy makers including politicians, the traditional authorities and clergy to create a conducive policy environment that is Youth Friendly".

It appealed to the District Assembly and all stakeholders to ensure that there was sufficient information on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health issues for the youth.

Participants also called on politicians to also include in their manifestoes issues concerning women and children affairs and called on parents to ensure that they provide their children with shelter, food, clothing and education.

In his welcoming address the Awutu-Effutu-Senya district Youth co-ordinator of the National Youth Council, Mr Emmanuel Sodja Martey called on parents to allow their wards to take part in decision-making process in the family.

The MP for Effutu, Mr Mike Hammah advised school children to avoid negative acts that would endanger their lives. He said plans were far advanced to institute an educational endowment fund to support brilliant but needy students in the constituency.
