NYEP presents sewing machines to seamstress apprentices

The National Youth Employment Program (NYEP) in the Kwahu West Municipality, has donated 28 sewing machines to seamstress apprentices, who have completed their training, to enable them to establish their own business .

The 28 apprentices underwent six months training under the Youth in Vocation Model of the NYEP, in Nkawkaw.

Presenting the sewing machines, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alex Somuah Obeng, said 200 other apprentices would be presented with a sewing machine each after completion of their training, to also establish their business.

He advised the beneficiaries not to sell the machines and go into petty trading, but to practice their trade to generate income to reduce poverty and unemployment in the Municipality.

Mr Obeng appealed to the people to register when the biometric voter’s register is opened, to enable them to exercise their franchise during the forthcoming general elections.

He asked the people to tolerate each other’s view during the electioneering, to ensure peace in the country.

The Municipal NYEP Coordinator, Mr Fuseini Soala, said the Government inherited teaching and health models of the NYEP and has added the youth in vocation, youth in security and youth in fire service models.

He said the NYEP would assist the apprentices to construct kiosk on hire purchase basis to enable them to practice their trade.

In another development, the Municipal Assembly presented seven sewing machines to four seamstresses who lost their kiosk in fire outbreak in January this year at Nkawkaw.

Presenting the sewing machines, Mr Obeng said the assembly and the National Disaster Management Organization would take steps to rehabilitate the victims.
