Member of Parliament (MP) for Wasa Amenfi Central, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah has said the monthly allowance for the Nation Builder's Corps (NaBCO) is far better than the allowance for the National Service personnel.
The government of Ghana introduced the NaBCO to address graduate unemployment in the country. About 100,000 recruits of NaBCO successfully passed out on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, in Accra.
The 100,000 recruits will be placed under seven modules which include Feed Ghana, Educate Ghana, Revenue Ghana, Heal Ghana, Enterprise Ghana, Digitise Ghana and Governance Ghana.
Speaking on 'Badwam' on Adom TV, Hon. Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah noted that NaBCO will reduce the graduate unemployment and Ghanaians should embrace such laudable initiative by the government.
He then added that the monthly allowance which will be given the beneficiaries is far better than the monthly allowance the National Service personnel receive.
He said, "Omanhene, let me say that this government has done well for this program because it will reduce the unemployment rate of our country and in fact, their allowance is far better than that of the National Service Scheme".
He added that the beneficiaries will however not depend on their parents for survival, as well as other family members.
He then suggested that the government create avenues for these graduates to get permanent jobs.
"I support this program because their allowance is better but my problem is that this program is not permanent and it is like the YEA and at the end of their contracts, these young people will be going home as unemployed again, it is my headache and I suggest the government can invest in our youth to be entrepreneurs and if we are able to give entrepreneur skills to our youth, Omanhene in the next five years, Ghana as a country will have 20 Bill Gates and this country will develop rapidly", he said.
