The Director of Operations at the Presidency, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije says the former First Lady is “livid and appalled” by the distasteful comments by former President Rawlings on the death of President Mills.
Former President Rawlings in an interview with BBC stated that President Mills’ death could have been avoided if he had done something wiser.
According to Mr. Rawlings “It was quite a shock to both my wife and I because he’s been battling the cancer for quite a while but this is certainly the wrong time for him to go because we have elections around the corner in December,” he stated.
"Quite frankly I think that had he been advised and done something wiser earlier on, he could probably have survived for another six, seven months, I guess but it got too tight, it got extremely tight.”
However, speaking in an interview on Citi FM on Thursday, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije who is also the NDC Parliamentary candidate for the Odododiodoo constituency stated that the former first lady, Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills is deeply saddened by the shameful comments of Mr. Rawlings.
According to him, some close people to Mrs. Naadu Mills have confirmed to him that the former First Lady was shocked that Mr. Rawlings could make such statements in a time when the whole nation is mourning the death of her husband and President of the country.
Mr. Vanderpuije added that he would have prevented Mr. Rawlings from entering the premises of the late President Mills’ residence if he was a member of the family.
He said no family member will welcome the former President Rawlings to pay tribute to the late President Mills after making such distasteful and unfortunate comments.**
