Receiving the award on behalf of the late President and husband, former First Lady, Dr. Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills, said the selection of her husband, as a recipient of a Fullbright scholarship in the prestigious Standford University in1971, was definitely one of the major highlights of his life-both as an academician and later as a politician.

Whiles at Standford University, Dr. Mrs. Naadu Mills indicated that her late husband nurtured a quiet interest in public office influenced by the examples of academicians and politicians he came across during his eventful period at the University.

During an official visit to the Unites States of America last year, President Mills met with the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, Dr. Allan Goodman where the latter made it known to him, that being the only African alumnus of the Institute to have climb up to become President, the Institute was very proud of him and his leadership style which needed to be recognized.

Dr. Goodman noted that whiles in office, President Mills demonstrated a strong resolve to build a Better Ghana in a very politically accommodating manner which was worthy of emulation.

Ghana’s former First Lady, Dr. Naadu Mills reminded the gathering that the Fullbright scholarship, will keep the memory of the late President alive and etch his good name in the annals of history.

She later thanked the International Institute of Education (IIE) for the honor done her late husband and President on behalf of the family and people of Ghana, and prayed for God’s peace to be with him.
