With the evacuees having left Lebanon, the rest of Ghanaians remained in Beirut are preparing to lay to rest the remains of Madam Naanai Noi 43, who passed away at the Makassed General Hospital Barbil, Beirut on Sunday, July 23 after a heart failure.

The news about the death of Naanai Noi on Sunday, July 23 shocked the Ghanaian community and the many foreign friends of the deceased. And many who flooded her residence at Barbil after hearing the sad news attributed it to the on-going crises between Lebanon and Israel.

Naanai Noi was among the many Ghanaians who rushed to the Ghana Consulate on Friday, July 21 to register their names to be evacuated from Lebanon. However sources close to the deceased said on returning home that afternoon, the late, a high-blood pressure patient, started feeling weak and exasperated. She was given her medication, which stopped short from loosening her up. A pharmacist was contacted later in the day and another medication was prescribed. On Saturday, July 22, she was reportedly doing well. Few who heard of her ailment visited to cheer her up.

Asiedu-2 However neighbors said the sound of the intense Israeli bombardments on Saturday night, which was strongly felt in their neighborhood caused her panic-stricken. She was rushed to the Makassed General Hospital on Sunday morning where she died half an hour later. Naanai Noi will be missed greatly by all. She was kind, and renowned for her entrepreneurship. She cooks and sells kenkey and many African foodstuffs and products. Many are those who frequented her house to quench their hunger and thirst. She will be buried tomorrow, July 30 at 1 pm., after a Eucharist celebration that will be officiated by Fr. Theo Vlugt, SJ at the Latin Catholic cemetery Chapel at Fanar, in the suburbs of Beirut.
