The Government spent GH¢6003.707.85 on 96 projects in the Nadowli District last year with education benefiting from 42 of the projects, Mr. Abu Kansangbata, the Nadowli District Chief Executive, has said.

He said the projects comprise classroom blocks, dormitories, dining halls and teachers’ quarters and were funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), District Development Fund (DDF) and the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

The remaining 54 projects, which include health facilities, potable water and sanitary facilities, police stations, youth centres and the construction of residential facilities for government workers, were financed by DACF, DDF and Community Water and Sanitation Agency.

Mr. Kansangbata made these known at a media briefing at Nadowli on Monday to highlight some of the development activities that the Government had undertaken in the District.

He said with the provision of the projects, the health, education, security, water and sanitation sectors as well as institutional strengthening and capacity building, service delivery had improved.

Mr. Kansangbata said the assembly had raised GH¢1,152,931.11 from its internal revenue sources representing 75% of the GH¢154,859.64 set for the year.

On the Rural Electrification Project, he said some 57 communities in the district would benefit from it, and that the government was determined to extend electricity to rural communities to help promote cottage industry and other enterprises.

Mr. Kansangbata said 7,874 school uniforms and 100,037 free exercise books were distributed to school children in the district as part of government’s pro-poor educational interventions.

He said 21 more schools in addition to the seven existing ones in the district were benefiting from the Ghana School Feeding Programme and appealed to parents to take advantage of the interventions to enroll their children in school.
