Former Flagbearer aspirant of the opposition, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, has professed that government’s inefficiency in managing the affairs of State will leave the Akufo-Addo government with a one term regime.
According to him, the freedom of Ghanaians is being trampled on by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) due to the stiff mode of governance.
He made this comment at a vigil held by the NDC to protest the closing down of Radio Gold and Radio XYZ by the National Communications Authority (NCA).
Spio-Garbrah pointed out that the treatment of journalists under the NPP is unbearable, adding that although Ghana is known to be a peace-loving country the absence of freedom could cause mayhem if not given proper attention.
In his words, “When the people get angry and rise up and we’ve seen so many examples of it in many parts of the world. Ghana is a peace-loving country, people in the media are peace-loving people but if our freedoms and liberties are going to be trampled upon, then Ghanaians will rise up. Then Ghanaians will match, and we will demonstrate to this government when it was a political party in opposition, we had to call them a ‘cleptocratic’ ‘chopocratic’ ‘cocainocracy’”.
The former government official added that the recent attacks on journalists is something new to Ghanaians while noting that, “journalist are being attacked, Journalists are being killed, journalists are running away from their country, journalists are going into hiding. This is something that does not happened ever in the history of this country”.
The NDC faithful charged Ghanaians to make sure Akufo-Addo, Bawumia and the NPP do not enjoy another term in office.
“…That is why some of us are also here to stand up, to solidarize and to say that never again as Ghanaians are we going to allow this to happen. That’s why when I say Nana Akufo-Addo, Bawumia one term, from what he is doing he doesn’t want to serve more than one term.” He indicated.
