President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has inaugurated a 51.5 million dollar Wa Water Supply project at Jambusi in the Wa west district of the Upper West region.
Face one of the projects, which is scheduled to produce 3.5 million gallons of water daily is expected to serve the WA and environs and some parts of the Wa west district.
The president who has undertaken this constitutional mandate as part of his 2 day working visit to the region commissioned the multimillion dollar water supply project at Jambusi to mark the official handing over ceremony of the beneficiary communities.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo touched down at the Wa airstrip at around 2:45 pm on Monday evening.
Residents and some party functionaries were at the airstrip to catch a glimpse of the president.
He later proceeded to Jambusi in the Wa West district of the upper West region where the president inaugurated a multimillion dollar water facility for Wa municipality and parts of the Wa West district.
Face one of the Wa Water Supply project which draws it source from the black Volta River, will produce 3.5 million gallons of water daily. President Nana Akufo Addo thanked the Korean government for assisting Ghana government in ensuring the realization of the water project.
But said they would have wished that Ghana had its own money to undertake the project without the Korea's support
President Nana Akufo Addo said God has made him to commission the water project because the project was secured by the Kuffuor administration in 2008 but took the NDC government 5 years to start the project, and added, a project that was begun by former president Kufuor is commissioned by Akufo Addo.
The Ministry of Finance on behalf of government of Ghana signed a loan agreement with the Korean Exim Bank securing 55.50 million dollars to undertake the project to meet the water supply demand of Wa up to the year 2025.
President Nana Akufo Addo also called on Ghanaians to understand that not all politicians are liars and make promises just to win their votes.
He said when he made a pledge to Ghanaians to implement free Senior high school, his detractors said it was an election gimmick, and the gimmick is out today.
He appealed to consumers of the water to settle their bills to help the system to function properly.
He said poor road network and poor coverage of electricity in what is forcing government to reform the electricity corporation of Ghana to make it a more efficient instrument for distributing electricity in Ghana.
He said the security situation of the Wa West district of recent times is a matter that is already on their table.
Paramount chief of Dorimon traditional area, Naa Sohimininye Danah Gore II has praised President Akufo Addo for honouring his his campaign promises of the fertilizer subsidy programme,for which the Wa district alone received 47,000 bags of fertilizers and added Ghana would have exported maize this year but for the evasion of the fall army warm in the country.
But he called on the President to work on their deplorable roads and bring a shea nut factory to the district as part of government's one district one-factory programme promises the people.
