The Chairman of the National Peace Council Most Reverend. Prof Emmanuel Asante has expressed optimism that an Akufo-Addo government will deliver and that he will not fail Ghanaians.

Rev Asante expressed hope that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will not just assign responsibilities but hold his appointees accountable.

He indicated that Ghanaians don’t want a government that is unable to hold his appointees accountable adding that Ghanaians expect the President not to sit aloof when his appointees embezzle State funds.

‘As a leader of the nation people will be looking at him in terms of the way he comports himself, the people he has assigned responsibilities. Is he going to be somebody who is going to be a responsible leader? A responsible leader who will hold the people he has charged responsibilities accountable?. Sometimes we delegate responsibilities and allow people to do whatever they want to do, is he going to be an abdicator? …These are the things people will be looking at.

I know Nana Addo, I have served on a committee with him before, and if he is the one I knew of, then I can be sure that he is going to deliver, I have no doubt in my mind. He is going to make sure that the people he has assigned responsibilities are truly accountable and responsible to Ghana,’ he expressed hope.

Speaking with Lantam Papanko host of Ultimate Breakfast Show, he remarked that it was a step in the right direction for the President to charge Ghanaians to embrace the change they have been yearning for.

‘I don’t think that it is for nothing that we refer to people who have come ahead of us as leaders because they are supposed to be the people who will lead the way as part of their responsibilities. They have the responsibilities to motivate, charge, chart a path for us as followers to follow. Without a very good leadership who will motivate and give a sense of leadership, there will be no followership. As far as I am concerned, I believe that what the President Nana Addo did was a step in the right direction charging us to come to realise the change that we have asked for. It's something that should involve all of us. In terms of the way we think, the way we look at things,’ he said.

He entreated the appointees to desist from pursuing their own personal agendas of amassing wealth through dubious means and chart the path of the President.

‘They should ensure that the vision of the President comes to fruition, they should understand the vision,’ he admonished.
