The President Flt Lt. Jerry John Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, have made clear their political intentions not contest the elections 2000.

The first couple has therefore urged the National Media Commission (NMC) to ensure that media houses refrained from publishing media articles aimed at maligning them and bringing them in disrepute in the public's eyes.

These were contained in a letter by Vanderpuye Law Consult, legal advisers to the first lady and addressed to the NMC.

The letter that it would be mischievious for any medium to continue publishing stories to the effect that the first couple still harboured political ambitions. 'Our instructions are to request you to exercise your powers under the relevant legislation to ask all media houses to put a stop to articles and letters which they publish with the aim of maligning the first lady and her into hatred among ordinary well-meaning Ghanaians.

'It lies false and malicious in the mouth of any Editor to claim that he has 'information from a reliable source that the first lady is standing,' and recent cabinet reshuffles are geared to that end. 'We wish to assert with all the instructions at our command that it is speculation of the rankest kind and mischievious for anyone to associate the First Lady with any so called KP2000 Group

'We have taken this opportunity of routing this message through your organization to curb the spate the spate of undesirable publications which are not only unprofessional but will result in legal battles and complaints. Needless to say apart from what we have in the courts we have lot before you.'

The letter asked the NMC to inform all editors about it and to let them know that should anyone go ahead and publish such articles, 'our clients reserve the right to use any weapon in the legal armoury to seek redress.
