Atimpoku (E/R), July 13, GNA - The former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has taken exceptions to certain actions of the Attorney-General office and said in as much as state attorneys had constitutional right to initiate legal actions against all manner of persons, it was illegitimate for the department to carry out that mandate arbitrarily.

She said the same constitution that granted the AG's office the right to prosecute also permitted the average citizens the protection of his right and as a result "it would be wrong for officials of the AG's Department to arbitrarily deny the rights of others". Speaking at a rally of the 31st December Women's Movement of which she is the President at Atimpoku in the Asuogyaman District, Nana Konadu appealed to the AG's office to set about its duty firmly but fairly.

She said although she was ever willing to stand any form of prosecution the AG officials wanted to initiate, they must never also take her rights for granted and abuse others' rights recklessly. Nana Konadu also spoke against what she described as a growing tendency by state officials to "lie with statistics," a means by which they repeatedly defame her character.

She mentioned categories of people who indulged in those acts as ministers of state who often paraded themselves on television using all manner of cooked-up figures to discredit her.

She appealed to her sympathizers to ignore such brazen falsehood. Nana Konadu denied having a stake in a number of hotels and described all state officials who peddle falsehood as "dishonourable men and women."

The former First Lady said what was distressing about such state of affairs was the seeming silence of people who could be described as the "conscience of society."

She said it was surprising university lecturers and other highly regarded people in the society were silent about these state of affairs and appealed to them to stand for the good of society.
