Nana Kwadwo Owusu adjudged best farmer in the Twifo District

Twifo Chiaboso (C/R), Dec 05, GNA - Nana Kwadwo Owusu, a 45-year-old farmer from Twifo Osenegya, was last Friday adjudged the best farmer in the Twifo-Heman-Lower-Denkyira District.

Nana Owusu, who produces cocoa, plantain, cassava, maize and poultry, received a 20-inch television, radio cassette, wax prints, cutlasses, soap, wall clock, Wellington boots, a hand pump, a spraying machine, bicycle and a wheel barrow as his prize.

Eleven people, an organisation and two staff from the district agriculture office, received radio cassettes, Wellington boots, cutlasses, soap and hand pumping machines during the district's celebration of the 'farmers' day'.

The Twifo Praso Area Development office of the World Vision was adjudged the best non-governmental organisation operating in the area and was given a certificate.

Mr Abraham Odoom, the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, commended the award winners and urged them to do more to enhance the socio-economic development of the district. He appealed to the people to contribute to the district education Endowment Fund and to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme for quality health care.

Ms Annette Turman, Co-ordinator of German Development Service (DED), gave the assurance that her outfit would continue to assist farmers in the district.

Mr Yaw Agyeibie-Kessie, the District Chief Executive, commended the DED for its support and urged the youth in the area to take farming seriously. 05 Dec 05
