Nana Wiafe Ababio elected Offinso Central Urban Council chairman

Offinso (Ash), Jan. 3, GNA - Nana Wiafe Ababio, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company has been elected Chairman of the Offinso Central Urban Council.

He polled 28 of the 30 votes cast representing 93.3 per cent while Mr Kwame Effah, assemblyman for Asamankama North his opponent had two votes representing 6.7 per cent of the votes cast.

Mr Eric Frimpong, assemblyman for Buaso, stepped down before the voting leaving Nana Wiafe and Mr Effah to fight for the post. Mr Collins Augustine Ntim, Offinso District Chief Executive pledged the preparedness of the assembly to work with Nana Wiafe. He said under democracy the people held the power, therefore, the new council should meet regularly and account to them of their stewardship.

Nana Wiafe expressed his appreciation to the Electoral College for the confidence reposed in him and pledged not to disappoint them. He appealed to the people not to politicise the new concept and pledged to work with the other members as a team to leave a lasting legacy for the people.

A similar election took place at Akomadan during which Mr Akwasi Boateng was elected Chairman of the Akomadan/Afrancho Urban Council. 03 Jan.06
