New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, says even though the Mahama-led government is not living up to its expectations, he will prefer that administration to that of ex-President John Jerry Rawlings.

According to him, the former president’s recent diatribe is “unfortunate” and should be ignored. He also described the former president as “corrupt”.

“If we are talking about corruption, Rawlings should be the last person to complain. He never accounted for anything he did during his era to date,” he said.

Mr. Rawlings has consistently accused all his successors of being corrupt. He has however singled out President Kufuor for special mention, describing him as a “very corrupt man” who “stole massively” from government coffers to enrich himself between 2001 and 2008.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony of the regional camp of the International Youth Fellowship at the Adidome Senior High School in the Volta Region, ex-President Rawlings accused Mr Kufuor of being an “autocratic thief”.

He also attacked the late President Mills administration and incumbent Mahama’s government for doing little to fight corruption.

Reacting to his (Rawlings’) assertions on Asempa FM, the NPP MP opined that “Rawlings still has that killing mentality of governance but thank God we (Ghanaians) are out of that. President John Mahama's government is not doing well but it is 100 times better than Rawlings’ era… Rawlings introduced curfew in this country and robbed innocent people of their lives and properties.”

“Rawlings will go insane for his bad deeds. God has his own ways of punishing people. He should keep attacking President Kufuor, Late President Mills and President Mahama; God will one day stop him (Rawlings) from talking….Kufuor’s era, and that of the late Mills and President Mahama are a thousand times better than his (Rawlings). He should keep on barking and one day someone will respond to him physically,” he added.
