Narcotic drug courier arrested at KIA

Accra, May 21, GNA - A suspected narcotic drug courier Stephen Boahen, 31, a trader was last Tuesday arrested by security men at the Kotoka International Airport for attempting to import 2,842 grammes of heroin into the country. The drug with an estimated street value of 260,000 dollars was concealed in a false compartment in his hand luggage.

Boahen a frequent traveller on the Bangkok-Addis Ababa route was apprehended during customs examination. A security source told journalists that during interrogation, it was revealed that security agents at the Airport sometime ago in 2001 arrested Boahen for a similar offence under the name David Kwame Fosu. The source said during that time the drugs were hidden in a pair of ladies shoes.

The suspect however jumped bail when he was arraigned before court and had since not been seen until his second arrest. The source said the suspect would soon be put before court for prosecution.
