Accra, Nov. 5, GNA - Professor Harry Akussah, Commonwealth Hall Master of the University of Ghana, has expressed worry over the increasing use of narcotic drugs by some students of the university and called for efforts to cub the menace.
He said it was an open secret that certain areas of the university including the tennis court, Saro-Wiwa Park and Riverside had been turned into joints where narcotic drugs were freely smoked. Addressing a meeting of Fellows of the Commonwealth Hall on recent developments and its Golden jubilee celebration next year, he said the situation demanded a joint effort by the university and hall authorities to curb the dangerous menace.
A release issued on Sunday quoted Professor Akussah as saying that the growing acts of indiscipline among students on campus could be traced to the easy access to narcotic drugs by students and that it was a problem that must be handled with all seriousness. He said he and his team, in collaboration with the university security, were doing everything possible to get the students to abide by the rules and regulations of the university and the hall to curb the menace as well as other acts of indiscipline. Professor Akussah told the Fellows about next year's celebration of Golden Jubilee of the Hall and appealed to everyone to contribute positively to ensure its success.
