Accra, July 16, GNA - The Constitution Review Commission on Friday said a National Constitution Review Conference on its activities have been scheduled for January 2011.
It said submissions made were received orally, in writing and electronically, and that it had so far received about 30,000 submissions.
However, it would begin follow-up Community and District Consultations in all communities in Ghana to ensure that persons who were unable to attend any of the Community and District Consultations conducted between April and June this year would have the opportunity to meet officials of the Commission, learn about its work and make input to the constitution review process.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by Professor Albert K. Fiadjoe, Chairman of the Commission said round two Community and District Consultations would be undertaken between July-September.
Regional Consultations, August-September; Regional Mini Consultations, August-September; National Mini Consultations, August-September and the National Constitution Review Conference in January 2011.
The statement said the Commission commenced the first round of public consultations on April 19, 2010 ending on June 30, 2010.
These consultations were held at the Community and District levels and covered all the 170 administrative districts of Ghana, including Bawku, Yendi and Biakoye, which recently experienced some conflicts.
It said throughout the consultations, citizens participated actively and in their numbers in learning about the Constitution and its operation, through discussions of issues and making submissions for its review.
The Commission expressed its profound gratitude to all who had made submissions and participated in the various consultations, and thanked officials of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies for their cooperation.
It also commended officials of the National Commission for Civic Education and all Traditional and Religious leaders without whose support and assistance the consultations would not have generated so much enthusiasm and yielded so much results.
It urged all Ghanaians to continue to support the process through the subsequent stages of this information gathering phase of the important national exercise.
