Accra, July 24, GNA - Three National Executives of the EGLE party, Alhaji Alhasan Bene, National Chairman, Mr Jacob Letsyor first National Vice Chairman and Ms Cecilia Akwertey, National Women Organizer, on Friday resigned from the party and defected to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The three described their action as "official home coming" to strengthen the NDC's hold on political power and assume mainstream political role within the ruling party, Alhaji Bene said on behalf of the group at a press conference in Accra.

The press conference was attended by some supporters of EGLE and NDC and was organized by the three to announce their resignation and defection to the ruling party.

He said as leading political personalities in the country "we must continue to play active role in shaping the democratic destiny of Ghana through the EGLE Party we have served the nation and the NDC behind the scenes but now is the time to move to the front roll." "We want to officially join forces with our brothers and sisters in the NDC to strengthen the structures of the party into formidable and viable political machinery with better prospects for winning the 2012 general election," he said.

He said most members of the EGLE Party are tired of being attached to the apron strings of the NDC that used them for election purposes and thereafter abandoned them.

Alhaji Bene reminded members of the party that the principles that led to the formation of EGLE in 1992 are no longer tenable "we must therefore come home and work assiduously towards strengthening the NDC to maintain power in Election 2012."

Meanwhile, the Eagle party would hold a special two-day brainstorming conference to discuss the internal and external political relations of the party, prospects for the future and adopt measures to reactive its structures.
