National House of Chiefs congratulates Ghanaians for peaceful elections

The National House of Chiefs has commended stakeholders involved in Election 2012, including local and foreign observers for their various roles in making the process peaceful and successful.

The House expressed excitement about how the observers adjudged the peaceful and successful nature of the elections as an example worthy of emulation by the rest of the Continent.

This was contained in a statement issued by Wulugu Naba Pugansoa, President of the House, who is known in private life as Professor John S. Nabila.

The statement copied to Ghana News Agency in Accra, said developments following the Electoral Commission declaring President John Dramani Mahama had created a tense situation in the country which had given cause to the Chiefs to be worried about national peace and unity.

To this end, the National House of Chiefs urged all political parties concerned to resolve outstanding election disputes peacefully through established constitutional and legal procedures in an atmosphere free of recrimination, violence and intimidation.

The Chiefs appealed to the leadership of the political parties and Ghanaians to remember “Ghana First” and behave positively to ensure that the good name that the country Ghana has earned as “a beacon of hope for democracy in Africa” is not tarnished.
