The National KNUST Alumni Association of North America is an association whose membership consists of the North American residents of the former students of the Kwama Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) of Kumasi, Ghana. The association also offers associate membership to the spouses of the full members. In addition, the association offers associate membership status to former employees of the university and individuals who share the goals and aspirations of the members. The National Association was inaugurated in May 1999 in Washington, D.C. It is a chartered non-profit organization with 501(C) 3 status. The main goals of the associations are to (1) promote and enhance the academic, technological and professional growth of KNUST, and (2) promote the professional development and growth of the members of the association and their dependents. Since its inception, the association has worked with several US non-profit agencies to provide significant assistance and gifts to KNUST. These include donation of books, vital hospital equipment, valuable hospital supplies, computers and other educational materials worth over 1.6 million dollars. The association has also set up an endowment fund, which aims at raising over one million dollars ($1 million) from which the association can assist KNUST.

The association’s most vital assistance to KNUST consist of effective introduction of its academic leadership including its Vice Chancellor to top academic leadership of some of most prestigious US academic institutions and universities. These institutions include Upenn, Emory University, Princeton, Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Alabama. The purpose of these academic linkages is to foster the development of memoranda of understanding between KNUST and these USA institutions. Members of the associations who have academic appointments in US academic and professional institutions also offer ongoing academic and technical expertise to KNUST. Currently, the national association has several active regional chapters with regional executive members based in Atlanta, Chicago, and Houston respectively. On April 4, 2009 the national association will inaugurate the Washington, D.C Metro Chapter, which will consist of KNUST Alumni residing in District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. Two critical upcoming events are listed below. The national executive of the association cordially invites all KNUST graduates and their spouses to attend these events as well as become active members of the association.
