Wa, May 8, GNA - The National Road Safety Commission on Thursday launched its Commercial Vehicle Log Book aimed to regulate the movement and speed of vehicles.
It would also help to reduce driver fatigue and other associated problems to minimize the carnage on the roads. Launching the book the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Mahmud Khalid, said the book would be beneficial if only other stakeholders like the Ghana Police Service, the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority and transport associations as well as passengers help to ensure the proper uses of the book. He appealed to the police to inspect the log books at their barriers to ensure compliance and efficiency. "It is better to be late to one's destination than to loose one's life."
Mr. Khalid said the government was committed to ensuring sanity on the roads and appealed to the National Road Safety Commission to continue to sensitise drivers and other road users to obey traffic regulations and the maintenance of vehicles to reduce accidents. Mr. Nuhu Mahama, Upper West Regional Industrial Relations Officer of Ghana Private Road Transport Union, appealed to the government to provide security lights at the Wa Lorry Park to help reduce robbery. He also appealed to the government to work on the Wa/Tumu/Bolgatanga and Jirapa/Hamile roads. Mr. Mahama gave the assurance that the GPRTU would support the district assemblies in the region in revenue mobilization. 08 May 09
