The Millennium Promise Alliance has successfully organised a workshop with the aim of bringing together stakeholders to share ideas on efforts each is making towards the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In his opening remarks at the event held at Marriot Hotel on Thursday, Chief Nat Ebo Nsarko, Country Director of Millennium Promise Alliance mentioned that the workshop would help create an interoperable platform for information which will go a long way in dealing with duplication of efforts by various stakeholders in their bid to achieve the SDGs.
“This is an exercise where we want each organisation or agency to share with us their efforts towards the SDGs and then ESRI will take all of the efforts that we share with them today and then we’ll go back and try to look at how that effort can be harmonised and integrated onto a common platform using their expertise to guide us in making what we call ‘a data visualisation hub’ where all of us can plug into so that we’ll avoid duplication of our efforts towards the achievement of the SDGs,” he said.
Adding: “…So when you see that people are making progress in one part and are making impact, you don’t reinvent the wheel; rather, we walk into the empty spaces. Because as it stands right now, a lot of attempts are being made, a lot of NGOs are doing a lot of work in the area of SDGs but how will you see what we are doing? So our meeting here is to allow us to share our attempts and efforts with each other so that ESRI will be able to put the pieces together to create what we call a repository of our attempts at the SDGs to inform the needs of the country in terms of data visualisation efforts.”
In September 2015, United Nations member states adopted the most ambitious agenda in history: the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 SDGs present a new universal agenda that promotes economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development, including gender equality and empowerment of women and girls. These ambitious goals seek to end global poverty and transform the world we live in by 2030.
Seizing on the opportunity of a new global agreement on the SDGs, Millennium Promise strives to continue to be a “go-to” organization for action-oriented efforts for the SDGs, continuing with their successes in incubating high-impact, low-cost initiatives, advising on policies and strategies, mobilizing multi-stakeholder networks and raising awareness of the Goals.
