National Security meet NPP, NDC leaders today

The Office of National Security is meeting the chairmen and leaders of the two main political parties involved in the election petition case today.

Thursday’s meeting, according to sources within national security, is aimed at security preparations ahead of the pronouncement of the final verdict by the Supreme Court on the election petition trial.

The two parties – governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) – have been entangled in legal arguments over the matter since the beginning of 2013.

The Petitioners – NPP’s 2012 Presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and national Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey – resorted to the Court to challenge what they say were widespread malpractices and infractions that bedeviled the polls.

The respondents include President John Mahama, the Electoral Commission and the NDC.

The National Peace Council and other civil society organisations have started vigorous peace campaigns to forestall violence after the final verdict.

National Security has also put in place various measures and strategies to ensure peace prevail after the hearing.
