National Service boss elected NPP Parliamentary candidate

Nangodi (U/E), April 7, GNA - Mr Boniface Gambila, Director of the National Service Scheme, (NSS) was on Tuesday elected New Patriotic Party Parliamentary candidate for the Nabdam Constituency in the newly created Talensi-Nabdam District in the Upper East Region.

He got 25 out of 41 votes cast, to beat Professor Charles Yindok, who got six votes and Mr Peter Kparib, an agriculturist, who also had eight votes. Two of the ballots were declared invalid.

Mr Gambila's victory marks the beginning of a fierce battle for power in that constituency as he faces Mr Moses Asaga, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament.

In a message to the delegates, Mr Gambila declared that a bigger victory awaits the party in the forthcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections, and that Mr Moses Asaga would be unseated in that election. The NSS Director, therefore, called on party activists to mount vigorous campaigns explaining government policies and programmes for the electorate to appreciate why they should vote for it in the elections.

Mr Gambila said when elected into Parliament, he would address healthcare, education and poverty in the area through pragmatic programmes. He said he would do extensive collaborative work with development partners such as NGOs whose operations fall within the target areas to address the issues, with special focus on income-generating ventures for women and the youth.

The National Service boss mentioned improvement and redirection of the human resource base of the constituency to a more vibrant one through negotiations with bigger mining companies to invest in the gold business in the area.

He called on Nabdams to unite and support him with their votes to represent them in parliament, so that bigger things would come their way. "We already have a District, what we need is infrastructure. We should therefore support President Kufour by voting for him for President and me for Parliament", he urged.
