The National Youth Employment Agency (NYEA) in Bawku, in the Upper East Region, has received 1,010, applications from prospective candidates who want to work under a two year contract in three modules of the Agency.

The applicants applied online to work under modules including sanitation, community protection and graduate internship.

They would be invited for an interview and undergo training in their various chosen disciplines before being posted to serve.

Mr Jacob Zens Haruna, the NYEA Acting Municipal Co-ordinator said this on at the weekend in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Bawku.

Mr Haruna said the unemployment situation in the Municipality and its environs was so alarming that people could not afford a living and appealed to the government to increase the quota for the area so that more young people would be employed.

He called on those whose applications may not go through due to shortage of vacancies at the various institutions to exercise restraint because more modules such as youth in agriculture, health and education among others were being rolled out.

He commended the government for being proactive in revamping the programme.
