The Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi on Saturday, recorded perhaps the biggest and well patronized response to the National Sanitation Day exercise.

Led by the City Mayor, Hon. Kojo Bonsu and supported by TV3 Network, this month’s event, held at the city’s most populated suburb of Bantama attracted hundreds of residents who thronged the streets to help out.

They as usual, emptied choked gutters, cleared weeds around, clean the streets, collected garbage and swept the vicinity.

Traders at the famous Bantama market covered their goods and joined the exercise to clean the market before returning to sell their goods.

The Mayor expressed profound excitement at the turn-out.

“We had a difficulty when the National Sanitation Day exercise started, the people didn’t seem to either understand or not excited. But the numbers today show that, gradually the idea is being embraced and appreciated by the people”. He said.

“Am hopeful that with time, we will achieve the aim of the introduction of this laudable idea to keep our environment clean”’ Hon. Bonsu added.

The Mayor commended the Police, Army, Prisons, the Media and the people for the massive response to the exercise.

“I want to thank all of you for coming, God willing we will do better next month and the ensuing months as we endeavor to better and sustain the National Sanitation Day exercise” He said.
